Furniture for babies

When a baby arrives in our life it is always good news. He or she will always bring happiness to our life but also a lot of responsibilities. Everything must be perfect for the baby’s arrival.  We must give him/her a welcoming and pleasant space.

The room must provide the baby with safety and comfort. He or she will sleep, play, and spend a great amount of his time there. Let’s see what we need to take into account when decorating the baby’s room.

Choose the right room, floor, and colors for the walls

If you can choose, you should put the baby in a room that receives plenty of natural light, good ventilation and be as quiet as possible. It cannot be too cold either, the ideal temperature for a baby to sleep is between 20-22° celsius. The baby’s room must be as close as possible to yours.

The fundamental premises for the floor are safety and cleanliness. Since as soon as the child begins to crawl and then walk, he or she will be in permanent contact with the floor. Carpets are not recommended because they accumulate dust mites. If you opt for a carpet choose one that is washable.

For the walls, you should choose neutral colors such as beige, light green, light gray, or if you already know the sex, we can go for the traditional pink and blue but in pastel shades. These color pallets transmit harmony and serenity. You can paint the walls in more vibrant colors that stimulate creativity when the toddler reaches two or more years of age. Choose a non-toxic, washable water-based paint. In the case of choosing a wallpaper, it should be washable, especially when the kid starts drawing everything.

Do not overload the room with furniture

It is important to not overload your baby’s room. In this case, less is more. During the first year a crib, a dresser or changing table, and perhaps a closet is more than enough. Later on, the kid will need a piece of furniture to store toys and, if the room has enough space, a desk or a table with chairs for the child to play, read and do his or her homework.

It is better to choose solid wood furniture with natural finishes, avoid chipboard and varnishes. As for textiles, bed linen, curtains and carpets should be made of natural fibers such as cotton to avoid allergies. It must also be easily washable. When it comes to children this is essential.

For the room’s illumination avoid fluorescent tubes and halogen lamps. If it is a small room, zenithal light and indirect light are sufficient. It is necessary to make the most of the natural light that enters through the windows, so the curtains should be translucent and in light tones.

These are some tips for decorating your kid’s room. Renting some of the furniture he/she will not use for a long time is a good idea.
